Three Sisters Wilderness – Day 2

Dear Ronin,

Early the next morning, we parked at the Green Lakes trailhead and headed up a route known as Soda Creek. This trail slowly meanders up toward a peak known as Broken Top.

Soon we were walking through the volcanic dust and pumice landscape that defines this area. Here and there, patches of wildflowers pushed their way up through the dust.  These included Lupine, Paintbrush and purple Aster. There was one patch of Lupine so big that we could smell a sweet fragrance as we approached.

We decided to set up camp in an isolated spot below west slope of Broken Top. It was very cold and clear night.

Your father,
Gabriel
